Upon my assumption of duty, I reiterated my unwavering commitment to ensuring that there will be no safe space to hide for anyone who has committed a crime. Today, I am pleased to announce to you that through a collaborative effort of Zone 2 Zonal Headquarters and INTERPOL, we have successfully apprehended a suspected Canada returnee linked to a case of Burglary and stealing reported in July, 2025 one Olushola Ajayi Joshua, who had fled the country to Canada in an attempt to evade justice.

SUSPECT: OLUSOLA AJAYI JOSHUA MALE 50 YEARS OLD
EXHIBIT: NIL

BRIEF:
Following a petition dated 11th July, 2025, addressed to the Office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Zonal Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, by the complainant, a case burglary and stealing was reported at her residence located on Sesayon Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos. The complainant alleged that burglars broke into her residence and carted away household properties and valuables worth more than one hundred and fifty million naira (N150,000,000). The complainant suspected Olushola Joshua Ajayi, an accountant at her late father’s company and six others accomplices of involvement in the crime. According to the complainant, she had entrusted Olushola Joshua Ajayi with a spare key to the residential apartment during the rainy season of 2022 to enable him gain access to the apartment whenever necessary to assist in evacuating rainwater resulting from leakages in the roof. The complainant further stated that upon visiting the apartment in July, 2025, she discovered that the apartment has been burgled and household properties and other valuables worth more than N150,000,000 has been stolen. Consequently, detectives attached to Zonal Servicom team (formerly Zonal Strike Force team) commenced a diligent investigation into the complaint and their efforts led to the arrest of six suspects who had access to the properties. The suspects were charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation. However, investigations revealed that Olushola Ajayi Joshua who also had access to the properties had fled to Canada in July, 2025, and was declared at large. Frantic efforts made to ensure he answers to the allegations made against him proved abortive this prompted the Zone 2 Headquarters to collaborate with INTERPOL on 16th July, 2025, and caused his passport to be flagged. Consequent upon this development, the INTERPOL, Lagos successfully apprehended Olushola Ajayi Joshua at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, 1st June, 2026 at 9:30pm upon his return to Nigeria. The suspect has been handed over to the Zone 2 Zonal Headquarters today, 2nd June, 2026 for further investigation and prosecution to serve as deterrence to would−be criminal elements. As part of our commitment to accountability, we deemed it necessary to brief the media on this significant development. This is also a testament of the result−oriented and deep synergy that exists between the Nigeria Police force and INTERPOL, as this should send a clear warning to would−be criminals that there will be no safe haven for any criminal element anywhere in the world.
