The engagements form part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen operational coordination, deepen community partnership, and enhance intelligence-led policing across the region.
As part of the visit, the DIG paid courtesy calls on the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, where he held discussions focused on improving collaboration among government institutions, traditional authorities, and security agencies in the collective fight against crime.
During his meeting with Governor Makinde, DIG Fayoade commended the state government’s sustained support for security operations and emphasized the need for stronger intelligence sharing frameworks, community policing structures, and inter-agency synergy to address evolving security threats in the Southwest.
At the Olubadan’s Palace, he acknowledged the vital role of traditional institutions in grassroots intelligence gathering, conflict resolution, and maintaining social order. The monarch, in response, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting security agencies in ensuring peace and stability in Ibadanland and beyond.
The DIG also visited the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, where he held an interactive session with senior officers, operational commanders, and stakeholders, focusing on professionalism, discipline, and the adoption of modern policing strategies driven by technology and data intelligence.
Speaking during the visit, DIG Fayoade reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ongoing operations aimed at securing the release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, assuring that technology-enabled tracking and intelligence systems are being actively deployed.
He stressed that the Force remains committed to ensuring the safe return of the victims, noting that operational efforts are being coordinated to achieve results without harm to those abducted.
The DIG reiterated that modern policing globally is increasingly dependent on technology, describing it as a critical force multiplier in crime detection, prevention, and response.
He also conveyed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Ridwan Disu, mandating senior police officers nationwide to undertake strategic engagements and operational reviews aimed at strengthening public confidence and improving service delivery.
According to him, officers must prioritize professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights, warning that public trust remains central to effective policing and must not be compromised.
DIG Fayoade further called for stronger collaboration between police formations and the public, emphasizing that timely and credible intelligence from communities remains essential in combating crime and insecurity.
“The Southwest must remain safe and secure, and this can only be achieved through collective responsibility. Security agencies will continue to act decisively, but we need the cooperation of all stakeholders,” he stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola, commended the visit, noting that it would strengthen operational capacity and further enhance ongoing policing reforms within the command.
The Southwest tour is expected to cover all six states in the region as part of broader efforts to evaluate security operations, reinforce institutional collaboration, and promote technology-driven policing strategies.
