Strong Grassroots Backing Boosts RIO’s Lagos Assembly Bid





Lagos, Nigeria – Hon. Rasaq Ibrahim Olamilekan (RIO), the immediate past Executive Chairman of Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has officially declared his intention to contest for the Lagos State House of Assembly seat representing Surulere Constituency II.



The declaration, held on Saturday, March 21, has generated strong grassroots momentum across the constituency, drawing widespread support from community leaders, youth groups, and residents. The event marked a significant transition for the seasoned local administrator into state-level legislative politics.

Proven Track Record of Development
Hon. Olamilekan enters the race with a solid record of public service, having earned recognition for his inclusive governance approach during his tenure as council chairman. His administration delivered key projects across critical sectors, including:
Infrastructure and Health: Reconstruction of the Orile-Iganmu Primary Healthcare Centre, alongside extensive road and drainage rehabilitation projects.
Social Welfare: Implementation of a six-month palliative programme following fuel subsidy removal, providing food and financial assistance to over 12,000 vulnerable residents, including widows and the elderly.


Youth Empowerment: Promotion of youth inclusion through targeted engagement and empowerment initiatives.
Commitment to Security and Peacebuilding
A central pillar of Hon. Olamilekan’s leadership has been his proactive stance on public safety. As a Patron of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Southwest Nigeria, he has consistently advocated for sustainable maintenance of security infrastructure.
During his tenure, he institutionalized monthly security meetings with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and facilitated the provision of operational vehicles to local police formations. He also played a key role in restoring peace in Orile-Iganmu through the establishment of an Enquiry and Peace Taskforce Committee to address recurring street conflicts.
“Sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of security,” he emphasized.

In his declaration speech, Hon. Olamilekan pledged to leverage his executive experience to deliver impactful legislation focused on the needs of his constituents. His priorities include:
Enacting people-oriented laws and improving infrastructure funding.

“Buying equipment is not enough; we must make deliberate provisions for maintenance and community engagement to ensure long-term safety,” he stated. “My campaign is driven by direct engagement and a commitment to delivering measurable outcomes for every constituent.”
