Honourable Minister Hannatu Musa-Musawa Congratulates NTDA Director-General on Appointment as Chairman of African Travel Commission




 
The Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa-Musawa, has congratulated the Director-General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority, Dr. Ola Awakan, on his appointment as Board Chairman of the African Travel Commission, describing the development as a proud milestone for Nigeria and the African tourism community.
 
Dr. Awakan paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister in her office in Abuja, accompanied by the President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria, Dr. Aliyu Badaki, and a Board Member of the African Travel Commission, Mrs. Susan Akporiaye. During the visit, the delegation formally presented the certificate and letter confirming his appointment.
 
The Honourable Minister commended the Director-General for his focused leadership within his first five months in office, noting that his elevation to continental responsibility reflects both professional merit and growing confidence in Nigeria’s capacity to contribute meaningfully to tourism governance in Africa. She stated that the appointment reinforces Nigeria’s position as a key voice in advancing structured collaboration and policy coordination across the continent.
 
According to the Honourable Minister, the new role presents an opportunity to deepen cooperation among African nations and strengthen the continent’s presence within the global tourism space. She expressed confidence in Dr. Awakan’s ability to deliver inclusive, disciplined, and forward-looking leadership, while assuring him of the Ministry’s continued institutional support.
 
In his remarks, Dr. Awakan emphasised the importance of unity among African countries, stating that sustainable progress in tourism can only be achieved through shared vision and coordinated action. He observed that Africa possesses rich cultural heritage, natural assets, and creative talent, and that stronger continental partnerships will unlock growth, investment, and economic opportunities for citizens across the region.
 
He expressed appreciation to the Honourable Minister and industry stakeholders for their encouragement and collaboration, describing the appointment as a collective achievement for Nigeria’s tourism sector. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening governance structures, fostering constructive engagement, and promoting stability within the industry.
 
Mrs. Susan Akporiaye reflected on the mandate of the African Travel Commission and commended the Honourable Minister for her consistent support in advancing policies that promote tourism development. The President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria, Dr. Aliyu Badaki, acknowledged the Director-General’s efforts in encouraging dialogue and renewed cooperation within the sector, noting that his leadership has strengthened alignment between national and continental tourism bodies.
 
The meeting reaffirmed the strong synergy between the Ministry, its parastatal agency, and private sector stakeholders. It also demonstrated Nigeria’s readiness to contribute responsibly and strategically to Africa’s tourism transformation through leadership anchored on professionalism, collaboration, and long-term sustainability.
