Surulere, Lagos — March 21, 2026
Hon. Rasaq Ibrahim Olamilekan (RIO), the immediate past Executive Chairman of Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has officially declared his candidacy for the Lagos State House of Assembly, seeking to represent Surulere Constituency II.

The declaration, held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, in Surulere, drew a broad coalition of community leaders, youth groups, and political stakeholders. The event marks Hon. Olamilekan’s transition from local government administration to state-level legislative engagement, with a focus on people-centered policies and grassroots-driven development.

Track Record of Inclusive Governance
Hon. Olamilekan enters the race with a strong record of public service, having led Coker-Aguda LCDA with an emphasis on inclusive and “detribalized” governance. His administration prioritized infrastructure renewal, healthcare improvements, and social welfare initiatives that cut across ethnic and political divides.

Key accomplishments during his tenure include:
Infrastructure and Healthcare Development: Reconstruction of the Orile-Iganmu Primary Healthcare Centre, alongside extensive road rehabilitation and drainage improvements.

Social Intervention Programs: Distribution of palliatives to over 12,000 vulnerable residents, including widows and the elderly, following the removal of fuel subsidies.

Youth Representation: As one of the youngest council chairmen in Lagos State, he championed youth inclusion in governance and decision-making.

Commitment to Security and Community Stability
A strong advocate for public safety, Hon. Olamilekan served as a Patron of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Southwest Nigeria. During his tenure, he institutionalized monthly security meetings and facilitated the provision of operational vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force.

He also played a key role in restoring peace in Orile-Iganmu through the establishment of an Enquiry and Peace Taskforce Committee to address recurring communal clashes.
“Sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of security and mutual coexistence,” Olamilekan stated.

Legislative Vision for Surulere Constituency II
As he seeks legislative office, Hon. Olamilekan has pledged to leverage his executive experience to sponsor and support bills focused on:
Sustainable infrastructure funding
Improved access to quality education
Strengthened community-based security frameworks

“My campaign is rooted in direct engagement and policy clarity,” he said. “We are moving from local administration to legislative advocacy to ensure the voices of Surulere Constituency II are heard at the state level with measurable results.”

Political Outlook
With a reputation for grassroots mobilization and party loyalty, Hon. Olamilekan’s candidacy is expected to significantly shape the political dynamics of Surulere Constituency II and the broader Lagos State legislative elections.
