SURULERE, LAGOS
— March 21, 2026 — Hon. Rasaq Ibrahim Olamilekan, the immediate past Executive Chairman of Coker-Aguda LCDA, popularly known as RIO, officially declared his candidacy for the Lagos State House of Assembly.

He seeks to represent Surulere Constituency II on a platform of people-centered legislation and grassroots-driven development.

The declaration, held 21st March, 2026 Saturday morning before a diverse assembly of community leaders, youth groups, and political stakeholders, marks Hon. Olamilekan’s transition from local administration to state-level policymaking.

A Proven Track Record of Governance
Hon. Olamilekan enters the race with a distinguished administrative background. During his tenure as Council Chairman, he was recognized for his "detribalized" approach to governance, delivering inclusive infrastructure projects, healthcare upgrades, and social welfare programs that transcended ethnic and political lines.

Key achievements of his administration include:

Infrastructure & Health: The total reconstruction of the Orile-Iganmu Primary Healthcare Centre and extensive road and drainage repairs.

Social Safety Nets: The distribution of palliatives to over 12,000 vulnerable residents, including widows and the elderly, following the fuel subsidy removal.

Youth Inclusion: Emerging as one of Lagos’ youngest chairmen, RIO has become a symbol of youth representation within the state’s political ecosystem.

Security and Peacebuilding
A staunch advocate for public safety, Hon. Olamilekan served as a Patron of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Southwest Nigeria.
His tenure saw the institutionalization of monthly security meetings and the provision of operational vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force.

Notably, he was instrumental in restoring peace to Orile-Iganmu by establishing an Enquiry and Peace Taskforce Committee to resolve recurring street clashes.

"Sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of security and mutual coexistence," Olamilekan stated during his declaration.

A Vision for Surulere Constituency II
Transitioning to the legislative arm, Hon. Olamilekan pledged to leverage his executive experience to sponsor bills that prioritize infrastructure funding, educational access, and community-based security frameworks.

"My campaign is rooted in direct engagement and policy clarity," said Hon. Olamilekan. "We are moving from local administration to legislative advocacy to ensure the voices of Surulere Constituency II are heard at the state level with measurable results."

As a loyal party man with deep grassroots appeal, Hon. Olamilekan’s entry into the race is expected to significantly influence the political landscape of Surulere and the broader Lagos State legislative elections.
