ALAKE OF EGBALAND RECEIVES EXECUTIVE MEMBERS OF LAGOS STATE PUBLIC SERVICE CLUB ON A COURTESY VISIT IN EGBA.
The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo (Okukenu IV), on Friday, 24 January 2020, graciously received the Executive Members of the Lagos State Public Service Club (1979) during a courtesy visit to his palace in the Egba axis of Ogun State.
In a moment of reflective candour, the revered monarch nostalgically revisited his post-military journey, recalling his retirement from the Nigerian Army in 1985 and his subsequent relocation to Ikeja GRA in 1986—the same year he was inducted as a distinguished member of the Lagos State Public Service Club.
He vividly recounted the warmth of his reception and the immediate sense of belonging accorded him, an experience which, he noted, left an enduring and indelible impression on his heart.
His Royal Majesty observed that a principal reason for his abiding esteem for the Lagos State Public Service Club lies in the exceptional platform it provides for professional interaction, fellowship and invaluable networking. He affirmed that among the numerous social institutions with which he has been associated over the years, the Club occupies a uniquely pre-eminent position, adding that he considers it a personal obligation to honour the Club with his presence whenever he is in Lagos.
The Alake further disclosed his instrumental involvement in facilitating the construction of the Club’s Royal Pavilion, recalling that the edifice initially existed as a modest bamboo shed which served as his customary resting place during visits.
In his response, the President of the Club, Mr. Kayode Odunuga, conveyed heartfelt gratitude to His Royal Majesty for his unwavering support, fatherly counsel and consistent patronage, notwithstanding the immense demands of his exalted status and far-reaching regal responsibilities.
The President further confirmed that with the concurrence of the Executive Council, the Club would embark on a comprehensive refurbishment of the Royal Pavilion to ensure that it reflects the dignity, elegance and grandeur befitting the august personage of His Royal Majesty.
He added that in recognition of Alake’s enduring legacy and immeasurable contributions to the Club, the pavilion would henceforth bear his revered name.
The President once again expressed profound appreciation to His Royal Majesty for his continued goodwill, guidance and unwavering commitment to the growth and prestige of the Lagos State Public Service Club.
Dignitaries present at the visit included prominent traditional title holders of Egbaland, among whom were Chief Sikirulai Atobatele (Balogun of Egbaland), Chief Rasheed Raji (Asipa of Egbaland), Chief Alani Bankole (Apena of Egbaland), Hon. Lukman Atobatele (Dagunja of Egbaland), and Chief Tosin Fadare (Seriki of Egbaland).
