FCT POLICE CLARIFY FACTS ON APO ROBBERY INCIDENT; URGE CAUTION AGAINST SPREADING MISINFORMATION

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command wishes to clarify the facts surrounding the robbery incident that occurred at Zone E, Apo Resettlement, on the 23rd of June, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Upon receiving a distress call from a motorcyclist reporting an ongoing robbery in the area, police operatives promptly responded and engaged the armed assailants in a gun duel. During the encounter, three individuals sustained varying degrees of injury, and regrettably, one later succumbed to injuries at the hospital. A vehicle belonging to one of the victims was recovered from the scene.

A joint manhunt by police operatives and local vigilante groups is currently ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and ensure they are brought to justice.

The Command’s attention has, however, been drawn to a widely circulated video clip from a church service in which a religious leader made misleading remarks based on unverified information. He claimed that one of his congregants had knowledge of the identities of the attackers, describing them as “herdsmen children,” and further alleged that police operatives withdrew from the scene and failed to act. These claims are entirely false and grossly misleading.

Such statements, when made from influential platforms, have the potential to undermine public confidence in the police, spread fear, and derail ongoing security operations.

The Command had earlier issued a statement providing accurate and verified details regarding the incident and the prompt police response. We strongly urge religious and community leaders, as well as members of the public, to seek clarification and verify sensitive information through official channels before making public pronouncements.

In the interest of justice and accountability, the Command urges the religious leader to advice the church member cited in the video to come forward and provide any information that may aid the investigation.

The FCT Police Command remains fully committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents. We urge the public to remain calm, vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police formation. For credible updates and information, residents are encouraged to rely solely on verified communications from the Police.
